Former interim featherweight titleholder, Yair Rodriguez has turned back promotional newcomer, Patricio Pitbull tonight in the former Bellator MMA star’s Octagon debut, landing an impressive unanimous decision win in their main card grudge fight at UFC 314.
Rodriguez, a former interim featherweight titleholder, had been sidelined since back-to-back stoppage losses to event headliner, Alexander Volkanovski, and Brian Ortega in the pair’s rematch in February of last year in his native Mexico.
As for Pitbull, the former undisputed Bellator MMA featherweight and lightweight kingpin, had been sidelined from combat sports since defeating the former of those crowns against Jeremy Kennedy more than a year ago.
However, coming unstuck tonight in his long-awaited Octagon debut, Pitbull struggled massively with the distance management of Yair Rodriguez — who managed to pick him off throughout the opening two rounds on the feet.

And in the final moments of the third, Rodriguez turned the tide massively with a huge right straight knockdown, before slicing the Brazilian with a slew of sharp elbows from a stacked guard on top. Riding out a unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) victory — Rodriguez called for a title fight against the winner of tonight’s main event clash.
