UFC legend Dustin Poirier has promised to put on a real show when he gets in there against Max Holloway for his retirement fight at UFC 318.

In front of a headline crowd in his home state of Louisiana, Dustin Poirier will square off with Max Holloway for the third and final time. Regardless of whether he wins or loses, the man known as ‘The Diamond’ is expected to ride off into the sunset and bring an end to his mixed martial arts career on July 19.

We all know that we can expect fireworks. In case you were in any doubt, though, listen to what Dustin Poirier himself has to say on the matter.

Dustin Poirier is ready for war all over again

“That would be nice to get in, retire clear, go home with no stitches for my daughter,” Poirier told MMA Junkie. “But in true knucklehead fashion, I’m going to stand in the middle and trade with Max, and we’re going to bleed and put on a show for the last one.”

Regardless of what kind of performance we end up getting, all we know is this: it’s going to be great to see Dustin Poirier make the walk one last time. While the career of Max Holloway will likely continue beyond this contest, Dustin, we imagine, is going to stick to his guns.

He’s never been the kind of guy who shies away from a challenge, and he’ll want to prove that he’s still just as good as he’s ever been.

The rest of the card for UFC 318 has yet to come together, but you’d have to think there’s going to be another title fight added. Even if it’s not, though, this likely main event is more than enough to carry things.
