Sami Zayn is the ultimate underdog within the context of professional wrestling – and in WWE, it feels like he is the next great ‘against all odds’ world champion.

From main eventing WrestleMania Saturday in 2023 to defeating Gunther in 2024 to tearing the house down with Kevin Owens at Elimination Chamber 2025, the last few years have been pretty solid for Sami Zayn – and that’s us putting it lightly. He has been able to tear up all expectations that have been put in his away, and now, he’s solidified himself in the Mick Foley role.

What do we mean by that? We mean he is more than happy to put his body in the line, he cares about the fans, he cuts great promos, and you can put him in there against just about anyone and Sami will make them look good. Alas, it’s almost time for Zayn to be the one ‘that looks good’ – and it’s almost time for him to really live up to the rest of his potential.

The beginning of a new chapter for Sami Zayn

On Monday Night RAW this week, Sami Zayn was beaten and battered by Seth Rollins and Bron Breakker. It came after Sami was given a choice – move to SmackDown and receive an immediate world title shot, or stay and be humbled by this new alliance created by Paul Heyman.

He chose to stick to his principles, and he made it clear to Seth Rollins that he would become a world champion in WWE, but he’d do it on his own terms. This could well be the beginning of the road to a title reign for Zayn, and given how much he’s been firing on all cylinders, we don’t think you can argue against that.

Hopefully, we continue to get some great character development in the weeks and months ahead.
