UFC veteran Jason Miller has given his thoughts on the upcoming title showdown between Jack Della Maddalena and Islam Makhachev.

While we don’t have a date or location yet, Jack Della Maddalena is set to defend his UFC welterweight championship for the first time against Islam Makhachev later this year. JDM earned the title by defeating Belal Muhammad for the crown at UFC 315, and now, he’s set to face the seemingly unstoppable former UFC lightweight champion who is vacating his belt in pursuit of a second world title.

Of course, many are already counting Jack Della Maddalena out, but they also did the same thing for the Muhammad fight. In a recent interview, the aforementioned Jason ‘Mayhem’ Miller gave his thoughts on how it could play out.

Jason Miller’s view on Islam Makhachev vs Jack Della Maddalena

“Now this is all clicking into place. I get it, because that’s a favorable matchup for Islam-now that Jack is a champion instead of Belal. Then, okay, the takedowns are a little easier to get. Oh, you might not get me with that jab, you might not ping that-you know what I’m saying, it’s a whole… that’s a deep reference, sorry.

“I think it’s really smart for Islam to make that move. I think that’s a winnable fight. Jack, though, impressed me to no end. I’m talking about learning how to wrestle real quick, like jumping up another level.

“His coaching staff, man, for more than their colorful language in the corner-they demand some respect, ’cause his wrestling came up super quick, his footwork was there, he had studied Belal, and his homework paid off.”

Jack Della Maddalena has earned the respect of the masses – but once again, he’ll need to dig deep and produce the performance of a lifetime in order to keep hold of the gold.
