INGLEWOOD, Calif. – Merab Dvalishvili and Umar Nurmagomedov won’t have to wait much longer to put hands on each other after the conclusion of Friday’s UFC 311 ceremonial weigh-ins.
UFC CEO Dana White kept a close watch as Dvalishvili (18-4 MMA, 11-2 UFC) and Nurmagomedov (18-0 MMA, 6-0 UFC) exchanged words during their final faceoff for the anticipated bantamweight championship showdown, which takes place Saturday at Intuit Dome (ESPN+ pay-per-view, ESPNews, ESPN+).
After claiming the belt from Sean O’Malley at UFC 306 in September, Dvalishvili will attempt to make his first title defense on the power of an 11-fight winning streak inside the octagon.
Although Dvalishvili doesn’t think Nurmagomedov is worthy of his title chance, he will enter as the betting underdog to the undefeated contender, who will attempt to join his cousin, UFC Hall of Famer Khabib Nurmagomedov, in the family lineage of UFC champions.
