Sam Patterson kept his finish streak alive with an upset finish in the UFC Fight Night 253 main card opener.

In a welterweight bout at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Patterson (13-2-1 MMA, 3-1 UFC) took out Danny Barlow at 3:10 of Round 1 to record his third consecutive opening round finish.

Barlow (9-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) started the fight patiently as he studied Patterson’s movements, but once he found the range, the strike totals quickly started to add up. However, Patterson was patient too, as he circled outside. He then found home for a punch that stunned Barlow.

After putting his opponent on shaky legs, Patterson closed the show with accurate punches, sending Barlow to the canvas and prompting referee Mike Beltran to rush in for the early upset stoppage.

On his current streak, Patterson has stopped Yohan Lainesse, Kiefer Crosbie, and now Barlow for a trio of Round 1 finishes. During his post-fight interview, he said he hoped this result would earn him another contract with the UFC, which appears to be a safe bet considering his finishing prowress.

Barlow’s first professional loss comes in devastating fashion, as he now falls to 2-1 under the UFC’s banner.
