UFC lightweight Myktybek Orolbai is not your average cage fighter. While most of his peers are busy perfecting their ground game, Orolbai has already earned a law degree and can probably out-argue you in court – if he ever decides to show up in a suit instead of fight shorts.
Myktybek Orolbai – UFC Fighter and Lawyer
In a press conference ahead of UFC Baku, Myktybek Orolbai, though a translator, explained:
“Yes, I have this a law degree. I’m a lawyer. I already finished university, but I haven’t worked yet. I have a goal right now and that is to get a UFC title. Once I get my UFC title then I’m going to pursue my career as a lawyer.”
Myktybek Orolbai holds a law degree from Kyrgyzstan University, which he completed before launching his professional MMA career. He has openly stated that while he is officially a lawyer by education, he has not yet worked in the legal field, choosing instead to focus on his ambitions in the UFC. Orolbai’s academic achievement is notable, as he managed to earn his degree while also training intensively for a career in mixed martial arts.
Making it clear that the only thing standing between him and a legal career is a shiny UFC belt. Myktybek Orolbai’s UFC journey has been short but eventful. He made his promotional debut in November 2023, stepping in on short notice and winning by submission – because why not make a statement when you’re new in town. Since then, his grappling has turned heads, and he’s quickly become a name to watch in the lightweight division.

This weekend, Myktybek Orolbai is set to return to the cage, looking to add another win to his record and inch closer to that title shot he’s been talking about. His opponent is no pushover, but Orolbai seems unfazed. This weekend, Myktybek Orolbai steps back into the UFC octagon at UFC on ABC 8, held at Baku Crystal Hall in Azerbaijan. He’ll be facing Tofiq Musayev, a seasoned Azerbaijani fighter making his UFC debut on home turf. The lightweight clash is set for Saturday, June 21, 2025.
Orolbai, from Kyrgyzstan, is coming off a split decision loss to Mateusz Rebecki at UFC 308, a bout that earned “Fight of the Night” honors. Before that, he notched UFC wins over Uros Medic (submission) and Elves Brener (decision).
Orolbai has promised a “surprise” for fans and says he’s been preparing for two months. Whether he’s breaking down legal arguments or breaking down opponents, he’s aiming to prove that you can have both brains and brawn in the UFC cage.
